Nice Programs I: Nvu

If you want to create your own website and you don't know very well html, NVU should be your choice. It's similar to progams like Frontpage, Dreamweaver etc. on Windows.
It's pretty easy to use and tough you have lots of possibilities.

Installing it on Kubuntu is very easy:

Open adept (system panel --> symstem --> adept) and search for nvu, klick the "install" button, then on the "commit changes" button.

Voila!

To open Nvu: system panel --> Developement --> Nvu.

  • hey adam,

you need to enable extra repositories. Sounds complicated? It isn't.
Just open your shell (your konsole - you can find it in: system panel -- system -- terminal program (Konsole) ) and type:

    sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_backup

(in one line!! It will ask for your password. -- this backups your old sources.list if ever you'll need it!)

then again type into the konsole:

    sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list &

A new window will open with your sources.list. Now you have to uncomment (meaning: erase the # sign at the beginning of the line) the lines with "universe" and multiverse" in it.
Save the document, close it and type into your konsole:

    sudo apt-get update

and then: sudo apt-get install nvu

Now it should install nvu. (After doing update you can also install it with adept!).

Note: if you're unsure about the sources.list, read my post about upgrading ubuntu to kubuntu from october 2005. There is an example how your sources.list should look!

    I hope I could help you, Z.
